Places in Hawaii

Are there any bars or any nightlife in Hilo, HI?

I am a bartender and I'm moving to Hilo, HI in February. Are there any bars in Hilo that I'd be able to find work at? What about the night life? I've heard that everything closes down pretty early there.

1. I'm sure there are some bars but the only thing I know of that's open all night in Hilo is Ken's House of Pancakes. In fact, I think that's the only place on the ISLAND that's open all night! :) I used to live in Kona. Have you ever been to Hilo? Do you know what you're in for? Upwards of 120" of rain per year, for starters. I personally find Hilo to be depressing. I'm not trying to be negative about your decision, but it doesn't seem like you know much about the island or about Hilo itself. I strongly recommend doing some research before moving to Hawaii. It's beautiful (at least most of it is) but it's expensive and can be isolating if you don't have any family or friends on the island.
2. I don’t know everything about Hilo, but it'd be the LAST place on Hawaii where i'd look for fun night life. We came there in the evening and had trouble to find nice place to eat, I have to agree with previous comment - it really looked depressing to me. Even if you read tourist books about it - they say it straight about Hilo - it doesn’t have too much to offer. The opposite side of the island - Kona looks much more alive.
